NETWORKS

• Networks are by their very nature about connections, relationships
• Networks are emergent structures, again by their nature. The whole point is that how people are connected is just as important as what they are like – and the two interact.
• Networks of the same people can behave quite differently depending on how they are connected.
• Networks are not automatically power dominated and hierarchical (although they can be, hierarchies are just a limited type of network).
• Networks can be more complicated than can easily be represented as a visual image. But they can still be understood. • What a surprise – you use network analysis!
